When Life Looks Fine but Feels Wrong
Have you ever reached a point where everything in your life appears to be working, yet something still feels off?
You may have a stable career, supportive relationships, financial security, and a busy schedule. From the outside, everything seems fine.
Yet inside, there may be a quiet sense of restlessness.
A feeling that something is missing.
A sense that the life you are living no longer reflects the person you truly are.
This is often one of the first signs that you may be out of alignment.
In Get Into Your True Comfort Zone, I talk about the difference between living from your perceived comfort zone and living from your true comfort zone.
Your perceived comfort zone is the place of familiarity. It is where routines, expectations, and habits keep life predictable. It often feels safe, but it can also prevent growth.
Your true comfort zone, however, is where your natural talents, values, passions, and purpose align. It is where you feel most authentically yourself.
The challenge is that many people spend years building a life based on what they think they should do rather than what truly aligns with who they are.
Why We Lose Alignment
Alignment is not something we find once and keep forever.
Life changes.
Our priorities evolve.
Our relationships shift.
Our careers develop.
The person you were five years ago may not be the person you are today.
Yet many people continue living according to old expectations, old goals, and old definitions of success.
We become busy meeting obligations, supporting others, and ticking boxes.
In the process, we stop asking ourselves an important question:
“Does this still feel right for me?”
Without regular reflection, we can drift further and further away from ourselves.
The Hidden Cost
Being out of alignment comes at a cost.
Not always immediately, but over time.
Health
One of the first places misalignment often appears is in our wellbeing.
You may feel constantly tired despite getting enough sleep.
You may feel emotionally flat, unmotivated, or overwhelmed.
Your body often notices the misalignment before your mind fully understands it.
Career
Many people stay in careers that no longer inspire them because they have invested years building them.
While they may continue performing well, they feel disconnected from their work.
The enthusiasm that once existed is replaced with obligation.
Success begins to feel empty when it no longer reflects who we are.
Relationships
Misalignment can also affect the way we connect with others.
When we are disconnected from ourselves, it becomes harder to communicate our needs, establish boundaries, and create authentic relationships.
We may find ourselves saying yes when we mean no, avoiding difficult conversations, or feeling unseen by the people around us.
Listening to the Whisper
One of the concepts I discuss in my book is what I call “the whisper.”
It is that quiet inner knowing that tells us something needs attention.
The whisper may appear as dissatisfaction.
It may appear as frustration.
It may appear as a longing for something different.
Many people ignore it because life is busy.
Yet the whisper rarely disappears.
Instead, it becomes louder until we are willing to listen.
A Simple Way to Reconnect
One of the most effective tools for identifying alignment is the Wheel of Life.
It allows you to step back and honestly assess the areas of your life that are thriving and those that may require attention.
Rather than focusing on one area alone, it helps you see the bigger picture.
Because true fulfilment is rarely found through career success alone.
It comes from creating balance and alignment across all aspects of life.
Are You in Alignment?
Take a moment to ask yourself:
- Where do I feel most energised right now?
- Where do I feel most frustrated?
- Which area of my life needs more attention?
- Am I living according to my values or simply reacting to circumstances?
- What is my inner voice trying to tell me?
Awareness is the beginning of change.
