Making Your Contributions Visible
The key question I asked him was: Does your manager truly know the impact of your work? His response: Of course, they do. But the truth was, they didn’t.
Managers and colleagues are often too focused on their own tasks to recognise what others are accomplishing. My client was hesitant to speak about his achievements for fear of appearing boastful. However, I explained that providing updates on his work wasn’t about bragging—it was about informing.
A Small Shift, A Big Impact
I challenged him to share his weekly progress in the next team meeting, simply stating what he had accomplished and its impact. This subtle shift made all the difference.
- A colleague expressed surprise at the workload he was managing.
- Another congratulated him on his results.
- His manager invited him for a conversation about a potential promotion.
By learning to communicate his contributions effectively, my client positioned himself for the success he deserved.
